New global warming policy
On Sept. 25, the nation’s first
auction of pollution permits under a global warming emissions cap was
launched by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a
collaborative of 10 states, including New Jersey, to establish a limit
on carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.
“There is much work to be done to meet the environmental and energy
challenges of the 21st century,” said Environment New Jersey Executive
Director Dena Mottola Jaborska. “But the launch of the RGGI auction
represents an important milestone on the journey to a new energy
economy.”
The RGGI program is the first to auction pollution permits, rather than give them to polluters for free.

Creating new green jobs will not only help to lower global warming pollution, but will also lower the umployment rate.
