How You Can Help

Brief Summary

Right now, our top priority is to tackle the greatest and most urgent environmental challenge of our time: global warming.

For New Jersey, global warming means more flooding and air pollution.  Our coastal treasures, including all of our prized beaches, are at risk of flooding from sea level rise.  Global warming also means more dangerous heat waves and more air pollution, putting seniors and children with asthma and other health problems at risk.

The good news is that global warming is solvable.  Scientists say that by cutting global warming pollution by roughly 20 percent below current levels by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050, we can avoid the worst effects of global warming, protecting our children and future generations.

We have the solutions available right now to achieve the reductions.  These solutions will also grow our economy by promoting investment in clean, renewable energy technologies and protect consumers from rising energy prices.

In 2007, New Jersey enacted the Global Warming Response Act.  This ground-breaking bill requires mandatory limits on global warming pollution from all sources statewide to below 1990 levels by 2020 and 80 percent below current levels by 2050.

In Oct. 2008, Gov. Corzine finalized a plan to meet the state's 2020 pollution reduction requirements.

Now, we need a strong plan from Governor Corzine and the Department of Environmental Protection that charts a course to 2050.
