Clean Air

New Jersey suffers from some of the worst air pollution in the country.  The air quality of every New Jersey County fails to meet the United State Environmental Protection Agency’s health based standard for ozone, more commonly known as smog.  And soot levels in the air cuts short the lives of hundreds of New Jerseyans every single year. Cars and trucks are the leading cause of smog and soot pollution in New Jersey.  Pollution from the state’s 10 coal-fired power plants, and other fossil fuel burning facilities within the state, as well as upwind of the state, also contribute greatly to the problem.

Environment New Jersey is advocating at the state and federal level for the common sense solutions that will help us clean up our air in New Jersey.  These include requiring existing power plants to cut their pollution levels, cleaning up diesel trucks and buses, and making automobiles that go further on a gallon of gas.
